How to establish scholarship

Step 1: Determine the type of scholarship fund you want to establish.
The first step is to determine whether you would like to establish an “endowed” scholarship or an “annual” scholarship:
Endowed Scholarships:
An endowed scholarship is basically designed to be permanent, perpetual and continues. They can be created with gifts of a substantial amount of money that can be given at once or over a period of time. The donor determines the amount for endowment. An endowment is a permanent fund.
Annual scholarships:
An annual scholarship can be established with an outright gift that the donor determines. Annual scholarships are given every year for a specific purpose and awarded to recipients over a period of five years or seven years. Unlike an endowment scholarship, an annual scholarship is not a permanent fund and is awarded only as long as you choose to contribute and as long as the student you are sponsoring is in school. An annual scholarship can be full or partial.
Partial Scholarship:
A partial scholarship provides a specific need area and it can be given for the whole year or for a term. A partial scholarship can be uniform only, books only, tuition only, school supply only. These scholarships are awarded to students based on the needs of the their families.
 Step 2: Establish Scholarship Criteria:
As a scholarship donor, you choose the name of the scholarship as well as the criteria. The Handmaids working in the school will be available to help you create the criteria for your scholarship. Endowed and annual scholarships at Ancilla are awarded to deserving students based on area of interest;
  1. Need based scholarship
  2.  Geographical origin
  3.  Leadership potential,
  4. Merit
  5. Academic achievement
  6.  Specific subject area interest
  7. General scholarship e.g books, uniform, school needs
  8. Full tuition/ partial
The Ancilla Catholic Comprehensive College must agree to any special award conditions established by the donor based on the values of the school. It is highly recommended that donors do not insist on having contact with recipients of scholarships. The school will take the responsibility of giving donors update on scholarships. If there is need for contact with the student the school will make that possible. The school is dealing with vulnerable families and children, and for their security we plead with donors to respect the dignity of each child. At the end of the academic career of the student, the scholarship donor and the student will be connected.
 Step 3: Administration of Scholarship
Typically a selection committee carefully reviews the scholarship applications submitted by students and selects the most deserving recipient(s) based on the donor-established criteria.
Major contributors of a scholarship are notified annually when the scholarship recipient(s) has been selected and are informed of the name and hometown of the recipient, as well as the amount of the award. Recipients will write a thank-you note to the donor, and in some cases, the recipient and donor are able to meet.
